The most expensive mistake isn't having the wrong idea: it's building all of it before you find out that nobody wants it. Validating means doing the opposite — evidence first, investment after.
The real question: will anyone pay?
«Would you like this?» is a useless question: everyone says yes to be polite. The question that counts is «would you buy it, at this price, today?». And the most honest answer isn't words: it's money.
The cheapest test: ask for a real commitment
Before you build, try to sell:
- a pre-sale with a small deposit;
- a waiting list with an email (someone who leaves their contact is genuinely interested);
- a letter of intent if you sell to companies.
If nobody commits while there's still nothing there, that's valuable information: far better to learn it now than after months of work.
Talk to 10 potential customers (the right questions)
- How do you solve this problem today? (you find the real competitor)
- What does it cost you not to solve it? (you measure the pain)
- What have you already tried, and why didn't it work? (you find the gap)
Listen to problems, don't sell. The answers tell you whether there's a business here — and how to build it. To go deeper on studying your market and competitors before you start, read how to do market research yourself.
Real signals versus illusions
Compliments, likes and «well done» are illusions. Real signals: someone pays, someone leaves their contact, someone asks «when is it ready?». Build only when you see those.
Vanteo does this research with you — it looks at the market, finds where the need is and gives you a direction before you invest. Then, once you start, you need the right numbers: how to set the right price.
